Helen Marie Nekl

HELEN M. NEKL “Babe“ (nee Fanta) age 94, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018. Loving daughter of Anna (nee Prochaska) and Frank Fanta (both deceased); cherished wife of Lad (deceased); dear sister of the following deceased: Bessie Cottle (Eli), George Fanta (Helene) and Frank Fanta (Clare, surviving); beloved aunt, great aunt and great-great aunt to the Cottle, Fanta and Nekl families; cousin and dear friend to many. Helen was born and raised on W. 46th St. She attended St. Procop Grade School and High School. She and her family were faithful members of St. Procop Church. Helen and Lad were married January 6, 1945 at St. Procop Church. They were married for 65 years - filled with love and admiration. During that time they enjoyed dancing, bus trips, vacations to Florida and spending time with family and friends. Starting in 1946, Helen and Lad were part of the “Club.” Along with her siblings and lifelong friends, these couple gathered often to share a meal, play cards and socialize. Helen was very proud of her Czech heritage and loved listening to polka music. She enjoyed baking, knitting and singing. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith. Helen was a loyal member of St. Francis De Sales Church for over 60 years and enjoyed many activities there. She was a member of the Czech Catholic Union St. Ann Society #11 for 80 years!. She was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary Post 1812 for many years. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to St. Francis De Sales SOCIAL JUSTICE MINISTRY, 3434 George Ave., Parma, OH 44134 or Holy Family Hospice, 6707 State Rd., Parma, OH 44134.

Friends may call at THE KOLODIY-LAZUTA FUNERAL HOME, 5677 STATE RD., PARMA, MONDAY 3-7 P.M. Prayer Service Tuesday, March 6 at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
