James Joseph Kabat, age 92, died September 29, 2014 at Hospice of Medina. He was born in Cleveland on August 6, 1922 to the late Michael and Amelia (nee Krakowiecki) Kabat. James was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Kabat Svec and brother, Richard Kabat. He is survived by his brother, Robert E. Kabat (Luella) of Maumee, OH, his sister, Alice Kabat Mazanec, San Francisco, CA, his nieces Judith A. Cross (Michael) Canal Fulton, OH, Shelly L. Raines (David) of Cincinnati, OH, Lori Summer, nephews Robert M. Kabat (Margaret), Maumee, OH, James D. Kabat (Bridgette) Perrysburg, OH, and Lawrence Svec. James was a Sergeant in the Army Medical Corps during World War II serving for 3 years. He graduated from Ohio University and later received his master's degree from Baldwin Wallace. He had a long career as a teacher and counselor in the Parma schools having taught elementary school and social studies/history at Normandy and Valley Forge high schools. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa educational honorary society. Burial will be Friday, October 17, 2014 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Rittman, OH at 1 p.m. (PLEASE MEET AT CEMETERY). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Jim's name to a charity of your choice.
