Maria Mudrak

Maria Mudrak (nee Mucyn) of Brooklyn, OH passed away Monday January 13, 2025 at the age of 92. Maria was born in Podiltsi, Ukraine, and came to America as a refugee and young bride in 1949, settling in Cleveland with her beloved husband, Wasyl Mudrak (deceased). Loving mother of Myroslava Mudrak (Thomas Marco), Daria Fedoriw (Myron) and Iryna Kulick (Fr. Michael). Dear grandmother of Orysia, Larysa, Lesya (Ben Scott), Katya (Nick Klein), Yosyf and Taras. Dearest great-grandmother of Sophia, Sarah, Charlotte and Sofiya. Cherished sister of Stefania Krislaty (deceased), Olha Szwed, Anna Pisorn and Natalie Mucyn (deceased). Cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews, and extended family in Ukraine.

Maria was the epitome of the Energizer Bunny, never idle and always in action: working, cooking, sewing, baking, gardening, cleaning, reading, praying. Maria had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, especially in church, where she harmonized with the cantor at Ss. Peter and Paul Church. Maria was also a talented seamstress, and was known for her beautifully tailored and tasteful wardrobe. She made all of the vestments for her son-in-law when he became a deacon, and hand-embroidered a set for special occasions. She was never afraid to tackle new projects and challenges. She was self-taught, and a master at hand-embroidery, crocheting, tailoring, alterations, making patterns, and baking korovai, the traditional Ukrainian ceremonial breads. Maria was generous with her skills and took the time to teach them to the next generation. Most of all, Maria was selfless, humble, kind and devoted to her family, setting an example for all to follow. Her smile, generosity, and strength of character will be deeply missed. 

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 4 PM to 8 PM (PARASTAS 7 PM) at Kolodiy-Lazuta Funeral Home 5677 State Rd. Parma, OH. Funeral Liturgy on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church 7700 Hoertz Rd. Parma, OH. Interment St. Andrew Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) Scholarship Fund or Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio.
