Vasyl Kovalenko, age 94, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025. Beloved husband of Nina Kovalenko (Wlasow) for 68 years. Devoted father to Irene Krimm (Mike), Maria Leysens (Gus), Lina Gall (Tim) and Nina Glad (John, deceased). Grandfather to Nathan Kopp, Nicholas Leysens, Greg Leysens, Bobby Gall (Lauren), Julie Tilley (Lacy), Andy Gall (Sarah), Nicole Omilion (Matt), Leah Kriaras (Dimitrios) and Johnny Glad (Sierra). Great Grandfather to Everett, Abigail, Katerina, Claire, Milania, Mason and Wyatt. Brother to Parasia (deceased), uncle and friend to many nieces and nephews both here and in Ukraine.
Family meant everything to Vasyl and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, sharing stories, fishing tips, entertaining, and frying fish. Vasyl, a skilled machinist, also enjoyed creating and engineering tools to use in car repair, his fruit and vegetable garden, foraging for mushrooms and of course fishing.
His generosity was felt by all who were around him. Whether it was a joke, a story or a meal, he shared his life with all who were lucky enough to be a part of it. He will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 5 pm to 8 pm with Parastas service at 7 pm at Kolodiy-Lazuta Funeral Home, 5677 State Road, Parma, OH 44134.
Funeral Service on Friday, January 24, 2025,10 am at St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 5913 State Road, Parma, OH 44134. Interment following at St Theodosius Cemetery, 8200 Biddulph Road, Brooklyn, Ohio 44144.
